Meet Ava!

I am a certified life coach with more than 25 years of leadership experience in higher education. Drawing upon nearly a decade of work as an on-air news reporter, I bring a keen understanding of communication and presentation skills.

I help clients work through major transitions in their professional and personal lives by focusing on the little things that lead to big successes. I believe it’s important to minimize distractions so that you can maximize what’s important in your life.

I love listening to podcasts and audio books while I’m biking or walking for exercise.

Read and Reap

After years of supervising television news interns and seeing mostly white men and women as their bosses, Ava located 40 Black women news managers and tells their stories.  This groundbreaking book showcases the women’s history and influence on the journalism field.

Watch and Witness

Documentaries are a natural outgrowth of Ava’s experience of nearly a decade as a television news reporter and her doctoral work in African American studies.  The mix of those two fields led her to work on a film called “Mandela in Chicago,” which has received international acclaim.

Listen and Lift

Ava has hosted and produced 40 episodes of The Ladies Leading podcast where she interviews Black women about their experiences and advice about working in journalism, law, medicine and fields that might surprise you.

“A cluttered space leads to a cluttered mind, which prevents forward movement.”
